Ayurveda & Corona: How to live healthier and more carefree with Ayurveda

The Cold season is approaching, cold noses are already everywhere and on top of that we have to deal with Corona this winter. Our immune system has a lot to do. Ayurveda can offer great support here. We at Sonnhof have been looking into the topic of Ayurveda & Corona. Here are some concrete and constructive suggestions that have been worked out according to Ayurvedic principles. They are easy to implement in everyday life and support us to deal with Corona in a more carefree way and to live healthier.

How to keep your immune system fit with a healthier diet

Support your immune system with these 4 foods.

In addition to a healthy, whole food diet, there are four food components that we should make sure to eat every day:

  1. Plant amino acids: two tablespoons of legume sprouts
  2. Iron: One tablespoon of dark sultanas or mountain sultanas
  3. Zinc: one tablespoon of pumpkin seeds or seeds of watermelon
  4. Vitamin C: juice and pulp of a fresh lemon

For point 1: Soak the pulses (whole lentils, mung beans, aduki beans, chickpeas, etc.) in water for 24 hours and then strain them. Put the pulses in a cotton kitchen towel and tie the towel tightly. Leave this little bag in the kitchen in a bright place. After 24 hours, the pulses with the small sprouts are ready to eat. You can also prepare for three days at once.

How to stay fit with breathing exercises that boost your immune system

The following breathing exercises, called Anunasika breathing, are very helpful especially in relation to Ayurveda & Corona because they strengthen the lungs:

  • Exercise 1: Inhale through both nostrils and hold the air for a few seconds without straining. Then exhale in short, strong and audible bursts until the lungs are completely empty. A short pause with empty lungs before inhaling again - repeat 5 times.
  • Exercise 2: Hold the right nostril closed with the thumb of the right hand and repeat exercise 1 with the left nostril. Five repetitions.
  • Exercise 3: Hold the left nostril closed with the ring finger of the right hand and repeat exercise 1 with the right nostril. Five repetitions.
  • Exercise 4: To round off, repeat exercise 1 five times

These breathing exercises strengthen the lungs, expand lung volume and clear the airways.

7 minutes every day for your health

These very effective exercises last seven minutes and should be done at least once a day, at any time of the day, while sitting or standing. Our whole living body is mirrored in our hands and these hand exercises activate all energy points and strengthen the body's functions and defences.

  1. You hit the palm of your left hand with your right fist, hard but without it hurting. Change sides. 30 seconds each
  2. You strike the back of your left fist with the palm of your right hand. Change sides. 30 seconds each.
  3. Clap your hands vigorously. It is important that both palms touch each other completely. This releases the healing energies of the palms - one minute.
  4. Interlace the spread hands and rub the fingers together vigorously. One minute in total.
  5. Rub the edges of the hands against each other for one minute, or better, hit them together.
  6. Tap the carpals together for one minute. In case of carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis at this point or similar, tap the carpus with the fingers.
  7. Grasp the right wrist with the thumb and middle finger of the left hand and rub back and forth (nettles).
Thoroughly massage the soles of the feet before going to bed.

Therefore, we recommend massaging the soles of the feet thoroughly with coconut oil before going to bed.
